| 'Assurance of reservation to Paharis is victory of BJP' | | |

JAMMU, May 18: BJP State Spokesperson Ramesh Arora has said that recent assurance of NC and Congress leaders over reservation to Pahari is victory of BJP's old stand for providing ST status to Pahari but not at the cost of Gujjar Community.
This issue was raised seriously during NDA government when a delegation of Pahari leaders under the active involvement of state leadership, also met with Atal Behari Vajpayee, the then Prime Minister at New Delhi, who also agreed the demand but could not execute as Congress gained power in centre. Although BJP has faced a tougah period when this issue was made an agenda of manifesto in parliament elections but NC and Congress exploited it fully and their leaders provoked, Gujjar community, especially to vote unitedly against BJP.
Former Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad have also endorsed BJP stand over the issue of Pahari community and now the present CM has stated in public meeting that the demand is required to be fulfilled.
He said this demand was initially proposed by BJP adding that serious efforts are required to take up matter with the central government in order to culminate the issue
