Unscheduled power cuts continue | Meters or No meters | | Sarita Jamwal EARLY TIMES REPORT UDHAMPUR, May 18: Despite installation of electronic meters to check power theft and avoid overload problem, the people are forced to bear the brunt of unscheduled power cuts amid scorching heat. Power Development Department's unscheduled daily power cuts for one to two hours at regular intervals in different localities continue to add on peoples' woes Speaking to Early Times, a Shiv Nagar resident, Raghav Sharma alleged, "At the time of installing electronic metres in various localities of the city, the department had assured that consumers would get regular power supply but situation has further worsened". He added that though we are facing unscheduled power cuts throughout the day but it is certainly unbearable during day time when mercury soars. Alleging PDD department's lackadaisical approach on the issue, Sunita Thakur of Gadiyan Talab said that department is doing nothing to check the menace of power theft. She alleged that there is no proper surveillance on these meters as in some areas they have not been sealed and people are still enjoying power theft option adding that in some areas people in connivance with meter readers are using heaters thus making losses to state exchequer. She said that the condition of PDD power supply wires installed years ago are so bad that even a mild wind snap the electricity in entire area. Some of the local residents while speaking too Early Times demanded regular power supply and threatened not to pay the rent if unscheduled power
