Two brothers electrocuted as HT line snaps | | | Early Times Report DODA: Two brothers were electrocuted after a live 11 KV high-tension (HT) line snapped off and fell on a .44KV (440 volts) low-tension (LT) line at Dansal near Assar in Doda in the wee hours of Tuesday morning. The HT line snapped off at about 2.30 am. Police said the line landed on a LT wire which then fell to the ground as a result of which there was a big-bang and the line erupted into flames. The alarmed residents immediately came out in the open as the 11,000 volts of power had damaged electronic gadgets in their houses.A portion of the house of Piar Singh caught fire. Reacting to the dangerous situation, Piar's sons -- Surjit Singh (35) and Ram Kumar Singh (29) -- also came out to find out what was happening outside. The chaotic scene drew more residents from their houses. But, as ill-luck would have it, Surjit got electrocuted when he tried to separate the two lines which had fallen on their rooftop. While trying to his brother, Ram also got electrocuted. Post-mortem was conducted on their bodies at the Dansal primary health centre today. The bodies were later handed over to their family members for last rites. There was strong resentment at Dansal with people alleging that the HT line had snapped because the PDD authorities had not carried out repairs in the area since long. They demanded ex-gratia to the next of kin of the deceased. Police said the angry residents also raised slogans against power development department.
