Raj Bhawan too has turned Kashmir-centric? | | | ET REPORT JAMMU, May 18: The Union Public Service Commission declared the result of Indian Administrative Service examination in the first week of May. As per the available information, not less than seven boys from Jammu and Kashmir cleared this prestigious and highly difficult examination. Three of the boys who cleared the IAS examination belong to Jammu and all of them belong to not-so-economically well off families. They belong to the lower middle class families. It was their hard work and single-minded devotion that saw them through. One of the boys from Kashmir Dr Shah Faisal even topped the list and it happened for the first time. He, too, belongs to rural Kashmir. Ever since the declaration of the result, those who matter in Kashmir have been greeting and congratulating Dr Faisal. So much so, State Governor NN Vohra invited Dr Faisal and his mother to the Raj Bhawan to greet and congratulate them personally. He hailed Dr Faisal for what he called as a remarkable achievement. Yes, it was indeed a remarkable achievement. The Governor's gesture was also hailed by many. They also hoped that Governor NN Vohra would find sometime from his busy schedule to come to Jammu; invite Udham Das of Pukharni (Sunderbani), Vinod Kumar of Kathua and Arashdeep Singh from Pakistan-occupied-Jammu to the Raj Bhawan and greet and congratulate them personally. The hope had stemmed from what the Governor did in the case of Dr Faisal. Unfortunately, however, the Governor has not been able to come over to Jammu to appreciate the efforts put in by three Jammu-based boys to prove that the Jammu boys and girls are second to none and that given an opportunity they can compete with boys/girls trained and educated in institutions like the Jawaharlal Nehru University and Delhi University. It is indeed ironical that even the State Governor, who is an impartial constitutional authority, has, like the Kashmiri leaders, not come up to the expectations of the people of Jammu province. The concerned people of Jammu say so. Had he visited Jammu for a few hours only for the purpose of appreciating the efforts of the three Jammu boys, it would have send a right message across the state and proved that he is Governor of the state, and not of Kashmir alone. There are reasons to believe that the State Governor could not visit Jammu to share his joy with the three Jammu boys because of his pre-occupations in Kashmir. The concerned people still entertain the hope that the State Governor would surely come to Jammu to meet and appreciate them. There are also reasons to believe that the Governor would not disappoint the people of Jammu whose grievances against Srinagar, the Raj Bhawan and New Delhi are many.
