Shopian victims' relative ignores AI `No fissures in Majlis' | | | Early Times Report Jammu, May 20: Fissures in the Majlis-e-Mushawart Shopian, a group that led last year's Shopian agitation, came to fore today when an important member refused to accompany them to meet the visiting Amnesty International team. Shakeel Ahmad, the husband of Neelofar and brother of Aasiya both of whom were allegedly raped by unknown persons during the night intervening May 29-30 at Shopian shocked the people today by stating that he had been exploited by the Majlis members. He refused to accompany the Majlis members to Srinagar where the meeting with AI team was scheduled to be held. Accusing the Majlis members of nurturing double standards, he said the case of rape and murder had been diluted. A local news agency quoting informed sources said Shakeel has accused the Majlis of helping the authorities by diluting the case. Shakeel has written a detailed letter to the Majlis on May 13 and explained in detail where and how the case has been diluted by them. According to sources, Shakeel has not been participating in the Majlis meetings for the past two months. The president of the Majlis, Abdul Rashid Dalal when contacted admitted Shakeel did not accompany them to meet the AI team. However, he strongly denied the reports that the Majlis had been exploiting Shakeel. "We were in Srinagar to meet the Amnesty International team to seek justice for Shakeel. Therefore, the question of exploiting him does not arise", he said. Dalal extended an invitation to the AI team to visit Shopian to have a better understanding of the case. The Shopian incident, it may be mentioned, freezed Kashmir for more than a month last year. People across Kashmir followed the programmes of the Majlis. |
