JDA sleeps over unhygienic condition around Bus stand | | | Early Times Report Jammu, May 20, : Politicians , particularly in opposition based in Kashmir have been pulling up the government for an apolitical reason of late, thoughgenuinely concerning masses as a whole- the unhygienic conditions and filthy scenario prevalent in capital city of Srinagar. But the conditions here in winter capital are no different. Srinagar, for above reasons has been rated among top five dirtiest cities in India but there is no dearth of heaps of garbage across several tourist destination places including bus stand and railway station in Jammu. But till date no effort has been made by the Jammu development authority, caretaker of Jammu bus stand, to improve the image of the place frequented by large number of passengers throughout the day. On Thursday large number of passengers and shopkeepers at the busy Bus stand market made fervent appeal to the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to personally visit the bus stand premises and suggest measures to the lazy officers who have failed to discharge their duties to make difference on the ground. In the absence of any reception the passengers run from pillar to post to know the departure schedule of buses. In the absence of basic amenities some times the waiting passengers have to go a long way to attend call of the nature. Few bathrooms located inside bus stand premises are always choked and remain stinky in the absence of daily cleaning, the passengers alleged. The shop keepers complained that the Jammu bus stand is frequented by large number of Mata Vaishno devi bound pilgirms but there is not proper place for them to sit.Improer lighting add to the miseries in pitch dark conditions. In summer season passengers cannot sit under fan as the existing ones do not operate and are out of order. The rush on the bus terminal add to the miseries of the passengers as most part of it has been encroached upon by daily wagers without any license to run their businesses. The cafetaria and other eating places are running their operations in shabby conditions and passengers do not feel safe to have their snacks, shopkeepers argued.
