| OIC relishes India bashing | | |
Ever since its formation 40 years ago the Organisation of Islamic Conference(OIC) has usually adopted anti-India stance in its resolutions despite the fact that the muslim population in India is greater than in majority of Islamic nations.Records reveal that the OIC has passed more resolutions on the Kashmir issue in which it has
indicted India on one pretext or the other than on any other issue. Recently the OIC described the Mumbai mayhem as an incident which did not warrant India to suspend the composite dialogue with Pakistan.Instead of condemning the incident in which 170 people were killed the OIC simply urged India to resume the stalled
dialogue with Pakistan.Last year the OIC accused India of human rights violations in Jammu and Kashmir.On another occasion the same OIC blamed India for repression against muslims.And this very anti-India stance was greeted with disdain and criticism from Delhi.There has been no change in the outlook of the members of the OIC.Strangely enough the contact group of the OIC on Jammu and Kashmir announced its support for the right of self-determination for the people of Kashmir.At its meeting at Dushanbe in Tajikstan on wednesday the contact group reiterated its support to the right of self-determination.This was announced by the OIC Secretary General Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu.This stand was supported by the Saudi and Turkish members.Well the right of self-determination for the people of Kashmir is provided for in the UN resolution on Kashmir.But about six years ago the same UN security council has described its resolution on Kashmir as redundent on the plea
that the provisions of the resolution were not implemented for the last 60 years.India has felt peeved over the role the OIC has been playing from time to time.And when the OIC wanted India to resume the salled composite dialogue as the Mumbai strike was an incident Delhi reacted by conveying to the OIC that the composite dialogue will be resumed only after Islamabad took adequate steps for dismantling the terror infrastructure.When the OIC accused India of human rights violations Delhi reacted by announcing that the OIC had no locus standi on India's internal affairs.This very stand Delhi has taken as far as the Kashmir issue is concerned. On many occasions Delhi has made it known that Kashmir is India's internal matter thereby conveying to the OIC that it had no role to play in this matter.But the OIC members have been found spending more time on deliberating on the Kashmir issue and on the muslim affairs in India than on any other issue.It is so
because majority of the members of the OIC are under great influence of Pakistan,a major nuclear nation.It is Islamabad that has been guiding the OIC members to focus their discssion on Kashmir and the plight of muslims in India.It is strange that while various world bodies and top politicians in the world condemned the Mumbai attack the OIC simply described it as an incident.It did so to appease Pakistan.This is evident from the way the OIC suggested to Delhi to resume the stalled comspoite dialogue.Well the OIC has been established to safegurd the economic,social and cultural interests of muslims in the world.Instead of taking in hand some definite economic programmes for the uplift of muslims in poor nations the OIC members seem taking keen interest in India bashing.This,however,could force the Indians.especially the muslims,to lose faith in the so called apolitical and impartial policy of the OIC.The OIC members are expected to play a positive and
constructive role and avoid kicking up politics of partisanship which may harm the interests of muslims not only in India but elsewhere also.
