Congress party makes mockery of democratic process: Prof Gupta
5/21/2010 11:44:17 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, May 21: The leader of BJP legislator party Prof Chaman Lal Gupta has said that the functioning of congress party is like the style of hypocrites and their deeds do not tally with their claims, and as such make mockery of democratic process. Addressing a meeting of the party activists at Talab Tillo of Jammu West Assembly Constituency, he pointed out that the Congressmen are paying tributes to late Rajiv Gandhi on his martyrdom Day today that this young leader was visionary and great democrate but they are forgetting that what havoc has been created in Jammu and Kashmir with the rights of the people. He questioned that where are the Panchayats and local bodies for which the tributes of Late Gandhi are being paid. In this part of the country the elections to these basic democracies were held only four times during the period of 63 year although during much of the time all these years the Congress was in power or it was in coalition with the National Conference and the PDP. The itself exposes the contradictions in their actions on the ground and loud claims about the welfare of the people.
The BJP leader accused the Congress in Jammu and Kashmir of playing the role of second fiddle just for enjoying the luxuries of power, whereas the National conference having a diseased mind to keep distanced this state from rest of India, is cleverly evading the extension of 73rd and 74th Amendments of the Indian Constitution for empowerment of the basic democracies including the Panchayats and the civic bodies. He alleged that even the electoral rolls are being fudged and deliberate attempts are being made to deprive the people of their basic rights but on the contrary it is being boasted that Late Gandhi had given a right of vote to the young people by lowering the age limit from 21 to 18 years, In this connection, the BJP leader referred to the electoral rolls being prepared for the ensuing elections for the Jammu Municipal Corporation and observed that the evil designs are evident that instead of there being any increase in the number of electorates of this city, these have been mysteriously brought down even from the number which was at the time of 2008 Assembly elections. Prof. Gupta on the occasion asked the party activists to have a checking of the electoral rolls being prepared for civic elections in Jammu. At the meeting problems facing the people of the localities of Talab Tillo were assessed and measures were discussed for solution of these in the planning process ahead.
The activists complained that unscheduled cuts in the supply of electricity are causing a great problem in this scorching heat of the summer.
