Seminar on 'Cultural Diversity for Dialogue & Development' held

JAMMU, May 21: A seminar was organized by Presentation Convent Senior Secondary School, Gandhi Nagar Jammu to mark 'World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development and also on 'Child Protection and World No Tobacco Day'. Gurdeep Singh Sasan, chairman J&K Children's Welfare Society was chief guest on the occasion. Addressing the gathering, Sasan highlighted background and importance of observing world day for culture diversity for dialogue and development. He said, "The world today is facing many problems whether it is economical or political or social and clashes of different culture and civilization. These clashes are retroactive and the common man is sufferer and thousands of innocent people die due to this sin." Sasan stressed upon the people to work together to protect fundamental rights of the child enshrined in the constitution. He urged the government to create an environment where every child gets an opportunity for over all physical development, health and social protection. He appealed to the people to send their children for education and make sure that female child gets uninterrupted education. He expressed his serious concern over declining female ratio as compared to make in the society. He urged the government to sternly deal with the perpetrator of this heinous crime. He further demanded that the guilty should be booked under IPC 304 (Abetment) which is non-available offence. He also urged the government to strictly enforce PC-PNDT Act. He further expressed a serious concern over growing menace of tobacco smoking and chewing particularly among younger groups. He encouraged the students to raise their voice against social evils prevailing in the society and contribute to make this beautifully world a heaven on the earth where people from all the coast and creeds, religion culture, progress, prosper together bringing peace satiability and development as first priority over war and cultural confrontation. Sister Rosamma Principal Convent School highlighted the achievements of the institution and stressed upon the students to strictly adhere to moral values and serve the society as a good citizen. She delivered detailed lecture on importance of developed world and also highlighted importance of protection to children for their overall personality developments and also highlighted side effect of the smoking. Jannat, Anan and Sachita won first, second and third prizes respectively. The prizes were distributed by Gurdeep Singh Sasan.
