Govt orders in youth's ‘custodial’ death | | | JAMMU: The Jammu and Kashmir government today ordered a probe into the killing of a youth, who allegedly died in police custody here. Traffic remained disrupted in busy Bakshi Nagar area here after the family of a youth, who was allegedly killed in police custody yesterday, staged a demonstration demanding an inquiry into the incident. Deputy Commissioner Jammu M K Diwedi along with senior police officials rushed to the spot and assured that an inquiry will be carried out in the incident. ''An internal inquiry has been ordered into the incident and if any police personnel will be found involved, strict action will be taken against him,'' Mr Diwedi told newspersons. He further said compensation would also be announced while a three-member doctors' panel has also been constituted to conduct the post-mortem on the youth's body. ''Three-member doctors panel including Dr Ruchi Khajuria, Dr K K Thakur and Dr Sanjay Bhasin has been constituted to conduct the post-mortem and after the submission of the report, further action will be initiated,'' the DC added. However, the demonstrators dispersed later on district administration's assurance that free and fair inquiry will be conducted. The youth identified as Paramjit Singh, son of Tirath Singh, resident of Bakshi Nagar, was allegedly killed in police custody last night when as he was picked up by a police team from his residence in a drugs peddling case.
