Similarly road from Srinagar to Sonamarg on the highway was also through and hundreds of visitors and locals were visiting the tourist resort daily. They said because of improvement in the weather, the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), responsible for the maintenance of the highway, the only road linking the Ladakh region with the state, have pressed into service sophisticated machines and men to make the road traffic moving soon. Meanwhile, vehicles carrying passengers and essential commodities for Drass, Kargil, Leh and other areas in Ladakh region remained stranded at Sonamarg and other places. Similarly those returning from different parts of Ladakh region were also stranded at different places on other side of the Zojila. The road remained closed for six months in winter due to heavy snowfall in Zojila Pass area. However, the State and Centre has agreed to construct a tunnel to make it all weather road.
