Consumers protest against PNB | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, May 22: Customers of Shastri Nagar branch of the Punjab National Bank have expressed strong resentment and dissatisfaction over its functioning. They said the branch staff was non-cooperative and hostile towards them. The customers said when they went to the bank Thursday last, they had to wait for over two hours to deposit money as the man, who was sitting on the 'cash receipts' counter, was very slow in his operations. They said the cash clerk was a fourth class employee and not a clerk who was normally trained in such works. "When we approached a senior employee sitting idle on the cash payment counter, he snubbingly told us it was not his duty and it would be better if we approach the branch manager," they added. They said the senior employee was sitting almost idle for the past two hours. The customers said when they approached senior manager, he too expressed his helplessness to come to the rescue of the suffering customers. The manager even did not bother to come out of his AC cabin to speak to them, they said. Repeated efforts to speak to Mr Jain, a senior functionary at the PNB's zonal office at Bahu Plaza, also failed as no one picked up phone in his office. The calls to Jain's office were made at about 12 noon, they said. They said a written complaint in this regard was also submitted to the senior manager. "On several occasions, the branch looks more like a government-o wned bank where nobody bothers about customers. May be because, they know the hapless customers cannot cause them any harm," they added. They urged the higher authorities to take appropriate steps to streamline functioning of the bank branch. The customers said when such a situation had arisen during the time of senior manager Rakesh Kapoor, he himself had sit on the counter and helped the customers.
