Super Specialty hospital ready for commissioning: Chib

Jammu, May 22: Minister for Medical Education, R.S Chib today said that the 220-bedded Super Specialty Hospital block at Government Medical College Jammu is nearing completion and infrastructure for all facilities is almost complete.
Fifteen super specialty facilities are being developed at Medical Colleges Jammu involving a cost of Rs 120 crore.
Similar hospital is being constructed at Government Medical College, Srinagar with equal estimated cost, he added.
Addressing a press conference here today, the Minister said that the work on the hospital is in full swing and it would be completed in all respects by the end of July next.
The minister also announced that attendants Sarai is only meant for the attendants and not a guest house as reported in some newspapers.
"This Sarai being constructed by Police Housing Corporation will house 320 attendents at a time and the works on the installation of lift are under progress.
This sarai has been constructed keeping in view the increasing flux of accidents and pouring in more and more attendants in GMC," he said.
He also placed on record the contribution of Rs.1.50 crore by the MPs, MLAs and MLCs for construction of this sarai.
He said the commissioning of the two hospitals would also help in tackling growing rush of patients at the present tertiary care institutions in the two city of Jammu and Srinagar.
Chib also disclosed that the prestigious project for the construction of Indira Gandhi Dental College Hospital with an estimated cost of Rs.30 crore shall take off in August this year as Rs.6 crore has been released for the purpose.
The administrative block, hostel, library block have been completed and the land for the DCH has been acquired from JAKFED and the foundation of the project shall be laid by Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah in 2nd week of June this year.
Referring to the shortage of staff, the Minister said that the government has formulated a comprehensive proposal for creation of 4124 posts of various categories for Government Medical Colleges and Super Specialty Hospitals at Srinagar and Jammu.\
