BJP Mahila wing seeks 33% reservation for women | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, May 23: The state unit of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Mahila Morcha oragnised a day-long meeting of its working committee here today. BJP state president, Shamsher Singh Manhas was the chief guest at the inaugural session, and lighted the traditional lamp along with vice-president, Suresh Jamwal, secretary, Shilpi Verma, Morcha president, Sakina Bano and Morcha general secretary, Priya Sethi. Speaking at the inaugural session, Manhas said, "The country feels proud of being the largest democracy in the world and we also boast of being the fastest developing nation but the women are made to suffer in this male dominated society. They have not been socially, economically and politically empowered. Today, even after 63 years of independence, the birth of a girl child is taken as a curse." He criticized the politically parties which have been opposing the political reservation to the women in law making institutions. Leader of BJP Legislature Party, Chaman Lal Gupta while addressing the concluding session, said that a women plays a very important role in our lives right from her childhood till last breathe but still we do not come open against social sins which imposes so many restrictions on them. National Executive Member & former State President Dr. Nirmal Singh, in his address, said that History is witness to the facts that a woman has proved her ability and capability many a times. Morcha President Sakina Bano, sought details of political activities and the organizational set up from Presidents of different districts of the state. She also briefed them about the party's resolve to seek 33 per cent reservation for women in Parliament and the State Assemblies. The proceedings of this meeting were conducted by Priya Sethi.
