Comprehensive plan to develop Jammu city on modern lines: Bhalla | | | EARLY TIMES REORT JAMMU, May 23: Minister for Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation, Raman Bhalla has said that during the 17-month period of Omar led government; an unprecedented development has been made in the three regions of the state. This was said by the Minister while interacting with the locals of Jeevan Nagar, Amar Colony, Jawala Colony and Apna Vihar after laying the foundation of various development works including covering of nallahs, construction of lanes and drains and blacktopping, at a cost of Rs 36 lakh. Bhalla said that the proposal for inclusion of Bathindi, Sunjwan, Upper area of Guru Teg Bahadur Nagar, Apna Vihar, Narwal and Bandhu Rakh under the jurisdiction of Jammu Municipal Corporation was under active consideration. Responding to the demand of locals of Jeevan Nagar, Minister asked the R&B authorities to prepare the estimate for construction of left out lanes and drains and submit the same for funding so that the work could be started soon. Regarding up-gradation of two 250 KVA transformer, he asked the Power Development Department to upgrade the existing transformer for improving power scenario in the area. While inspecting the ongoing covering/raising of edge walls of nallahs works at Amar Colony, Bhalla said that government has approved Rs 18 lakh for the purpose. At Apna Vihar, the blacktopping work of internal link roads was started in the presence of the Minister, for which Rs 25 lakh has been earmarked. Interacting with the people, the Minister said that the work on the up -gradation of Kunjwani-Satwari road to 4-lane would be started soon, for which the government has already released Rs 1 crore. He said the project is estimated to cost Rs 50 crore. He said that work on the 4-lane bridge from Bhagwati Nagar to Belicharana, involving a cost of Rs 150 crore, would also be started after completing the tendering formalities. He further said that the government has approved Rs 19 crore for maintenance of 6 kilometer long Nallah passing through Gandhi Nagar, adding that the work would be started soon after completing the tendering formalities. For improving the drinking water infrastructure in the Gandhi Nagar and its adjoining areas, Bhalla said that government has approved Rs 225 crore for this purpose adding that a tube well costing Rs 3.5 crore has already been dedicated to the People of Gandhi Nagar area. Minister informed that government has released Rs 55 lakh for up-gradation of cremation ground at Gorkha Nagar in Bahu Fort area and Rs 50 lakh for widening and upgradation of Trikuta Nagar road. For upgradation of the power infrastructure in Shastri Nagar and its adjoining areas, an amount of Rs 4.5 crore has been earmarked for construction of Receiving Station and other allied works. He said the Government has sanctioned Rs 1 crore for construction of view points, installation of high mast lights, walkway and road widening adding that the centre government has approved additional funds of Rs 25 crore for construction of artificial lake in Niki Tawi near Belicharana. Bhalla said the lake would be completed at an estimated cost of Rs 50 crore.
