Time to close JU or merge it with KU | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, May 23: The University of Jammu is this. The University of Jammu is that. It is known all over the world. It has entered into collaboration with several universities of repute in and outside India. It has signed a number of memorandums of understanding with a large number of leading universities in and outside India. The University of Jammu has emerged as a leading house of learning in the country. Academicians who were, and are, known throughout the world for their academic attainments have headed this institution and given to it an effective and skilful leadership. It was, and is, because of them that everyone speaks very high of the University of Jammu. It was because of the JNU don, who headed the university for six years before Prof Varun Sahni, that the University of Jammu achieved distinction of being the most outstanding house of learning. The University of Jammu has Internet facilities and it is something very remarkable. Credit goes to that Vice-Chancellor. It has infrastructure of world class. Credit goes to that Vice-Chancellor. It has a magnificent auditorium. Credit goes to that Vice-Chancellor. It has innumerable luxury cars. Credit goes to the Vice-Chancellor. It has everything one could think of. Obviously, credit goes to that Vice-Chancellor. Everyone knows who was that Vice-Chancellor. Everyone knows that it was Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee who gave a financial package of Rs 30 crores to the University of Jammu in order to conciliate the people of Jammu, who had opposed the decision of the Mufti-led coalition government to divert to the University of Kashmir the entire amount of Rs 20 crores the then Prime Minister had sanctioned for the development of universities of Jammu and Kashmir. Everyone knows that the then Prime Minister's financial package had required the university authorities to construct an auditorium out of the sanctioned Rs 30 crores. Everyone knows that the said financial package had required the university authorities to spend the amount on things specified in that package. Everyone knows that two persons in the J&K BJP had worked hard to persuade the them n Prime Minister to give a financial package to the University of Jammu so that the same could be spend on the development of infrastructure the people have been praising today. That the University of Jammu has become a global center of learning is all non-sense. The University of Jammu is not even recognized in the country. Its rank is the lowest. It has not produced a single teacher who could be considered fit for heading the University of Jammu or the proposed Central University of Jammu. It's all propaganda that the University of Jammu could be compared with any of the leading universities in the country or outside. It's all motivated propaganda. It is ironical that such a great institution of learning does not have on its faculty a single teacher who could be considered suitable for any top position in any of the universities in the country. It is time to close down the University of Jammu. Why should the government spend money on an institution that has utterly failed to produce a good faculty? The other option is merge the University of Jammu with the University of Kashmir. After all, the University of Kashmir has produced many Vice-Chancellors; the University of Kashmir has produced dozens and dozens of renowned academicians. It must remain a matter of shame for the authorities in the university of Jammu that they have brought the university to such a pass. It's all infrastructure and no worthy academician. It is also time for the teaching faculty of Jammu University to sit up and find what has gone wrong with it and the university itself.
