BJP observes Black Day on UPA’s first anniversary | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, May 24:
Even though the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government today celebrated its first anniversary and patted its own back with a pledge to tackle the escalating inflation by December 2010, the state unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) observed the day as black day. Led by the state party unit chief Shamsher Singh Manhas, large number of BJP workers wearing black badges took out a procession from party headquarters to register their protest against the anti-people policies of the Manmohan Singh led coalition government. The protesters tied black badges on the arms of common people as a mark of protest against the constant rise in prices. The enthusiasm of local people and their level of participation gave much needed morale boost to the BJP cadre. Later interacting with the media persons Shamsher Singh Manhas lambasted the anti-poor and anti people policies of the UPA government and accused it of running a hollow campaign to celebrate its first year in office. He said the UPA government has failed to tackle the issue of price rise. Manhas said we are observing Black Day to make public aware of the anti-people policy of the Congress-led UPA government as a result of which the common man is suffering due to escalation of prices of essential commodities and other items of day-to-day needs. During the protest demonstration large number of party workers raised slogans against the UPA for its failure to contain the prices, which have broken the back of billions of poor people in the country. Shamsher Singh Manhas, while addressing the general public and the activists, said that the UPA leadership is insensitive towards the issues which are directly connected with the common masses. The leaders of UPA have not felt the pinch of price hike and were enjoying luxuries at the cost of public exchequer. Their stoic silence over the issue and indifferent attitude in taking concrete measures to check the price escalation is a clear indication that the government at the centre itself is encouraging and patronizing this menace. He alleged that price rise is the outcome of nexus between black marketers and hoarders with the ruling central leadership. Comparing the 6-year rule of BJP-led NDA with the present Congress-led UPA, Manhas said that the prices during NDA rule were well within control as we were committed for a common man and did not allow the black marketeers / hoarders to indulge in malpractices. Manhas asked his activists to further intensify the ongoing campaign of the party against price hike to waken up this slumbering government before a common citizen dies of starvation. He said that it is not for the first time that the prices have gone up. Whenever the Congress comes to power, the prices automatically rise and it has been proved now that “Congress is synonymous of Price Rise”. He said on internal security front the country is facing large number of enemies from within but irony is that the UPA government has no game plan to deal with the menace of Naxalism and is sitting mum struggling to evoleve a consensus among its own alliance partners and among the Congress party. On the issue of resolution of Kashmir problem, Manhas targeted the UPA government for adopting a soft approach towards separatist forces and secessionist elements.
