Training for NREGA supporting staff demanded | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, May 24: Jammu and Kashmir NREGA Supporting Staff Association (JKNSSA) has demanded proper training for the supporting staff so that they could be able to perform their duties with more perfection. At the same time they are demanding salary at par with the supporting staff of Sarva Sikhsha Abhiyan (SSA) and National Rural Health Mission (NRHM). In a press statement issued here, JKNSSA president Ashiq Hussain said, “National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA) officials at district level has been given all the support required but the need is that J&K government should take more initiatives to train the NAREGA supporting staff at much higher level so that we could be able to properly update the data according to wishes of central government.” To update the data and help the regular staff of rural development department under NAREGA, supporting staff was engaged on contractual basis. There are five categories of the supporting staff of NAREGA; data operators, accounts assistants, administrative assistants, Graham Rozgar Sahayik (GRS) and junior engineers. “All these staff members are giving their best and most of the time the data operators sit during whole night to update the data,” said Ashiq Hussain, adding, “But as they haven’t got proper training and they are not fully able to understand the pros and cons of this scheme.” JKNSSA believes that supporting staff of NRHM and SSA comes under the same grade and are getting salary of Rs 13000 per month. “Though work wise we are doing much better than NRHM and SSA and our designation is same as theirs but we are getting only Rs 4500 per month and they are getting Rs 13000 per month,” Hussain added.
