Divided in factions, Cong men all set to present 'report' to Sonia

ET REPORT
JAMMU, May 24: While Congressmen of all cadres in J&K are eagerly awaiting the forthcoming visit of party president Sonia Gandhi this weekend, the party leadership divided in factions is all set to present their 'disgruntlement and a sense of grouse' against each other before the party chief and other top leaders of AICC. Sonia Gandhi is arriving on a day long visit to Jammu first followed by Srinagar where she is scheduled to lay foundation stone of Dal dwellers colony.
It would be naïve to say that Sonia Gandhi and other top leaders of AICC are not familiar with or aware of the dissensions which has virtually led to two wide warring factions with explicit loyality to the two stalwarts -former Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad and PCC chief, Prof Saif-u-Din Soz. In fact some senior leaders of the party who have been vocal on state of affaiars in the party had properly briefed her about growing dissenting voices during her earlier visit to the state. Some Congressmen who are believed to be forthright and to some extent comfortable in communicating with the party president had even sought her intervention in terms of making some changes at the top party level in the state to save it from further divisions and lobbies.
It is a different matter things have remained unchanged, rather the factionalism has been deepened thereafter. In the wake of party divdied in two sets of senior leaders comprising some cabinet ministers, former ministers and some senior functionaries of PCC on either side of the factions, the party president may find it difficult to ignore or avoid the 'complaints and grouse' this time and therefore will be left with a tedious task of bringing them all in one fold.
In Jammu Sonia Gandhi is scheduled to inaugurate a Tribal Culture Centre where she will meet leaders of both the coalition partners NC and Congress.Sources say apart from the burgeoning task of addressing factionalism within her own party, some senior leaders of Congress who are not happy lately the way some decisions have been taken in the cabinet meeting which has led to some friction between the allies are set to bring such matters to her notice so that the wheels of coalition remain frictionless in future. These matters will come up once she takes alook at the 'progress report' of the coalition government and its performance on other vital issues in the state, sources added.
Though the veteran leaders of both the ruling parties Union minister Dr Farooq Abdullah and PCC chief Prof Saif-u-Din Soz have been publicly denying any differences between the allies, contending the relations were smooth and cordial, perhaps in their capacity of members of the Coordination Committee, the sources added that Sonia Gandhi might have to 'grease' the wheels of coalition to make it run without any hurdle or minor hassles. What however, remains a bothersome task for Sonai Gandhi as president of the party to keep its own partymen under one flock and fold , given the bitterness and venmous statements the leaders of both factions have been giving against each other in public.
