World mental health day concludes | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, May 25: Week long celebrations of World Mental Health Day and workshop on National Mental Health Programme (NMHP) organised by Doctors Without Borders in collaboration with Health Department and Institute of Mental Health, Bangalore, concluded here today. Minister for Medical Education, R.s. Chib was the chief guest and Minister of State for Medical Education, Javed Ahmed Dar was the guest of honour on the occasion. Addressing the valedictory function, Chib said that mental health is an integral component of basic health care services. Which MSAF has been providing to people in the Valley since 2002. He said that the people have been availing the benefits of integrated healthcare approach combining both mental and physical care. He said that multi-faceted mental health related stigma and discrimination impeded access to existing mental health services for people in need. Therefore, integrating mental health services into basic healthcare is also one of the most pragmatic ways to make mental health services accessible to those who need it most and reduce stress as much as possible among masses. Minister hoped that the outcome of this workshop shall prove useful for implementation of mental health programmes in the state.
