JAMMU, May 25: In a major upset, former champion and senior cueist, Kamal Rohmetra today suffered a defeat in the hands of young Vidit Gawri in the quarterfinals stages of the senior snooker event in the ongoing 20th Jammu District Billiards and Snooker Championships at Billiards Hall, M A Stadium, here.
Losing the opening frame, Vidit fought back and clinched the following three to make it an impressive 3-1 win.
With the victories of Vidit, Sumesh Turki, Nikhil Kapahi and Sohail Khalid in today's quarterfinals, the semi-finals position has been cleared in senior snooker.
Now, in the semi-finals, to be played tomorrow, Sumesh Turki shall take on Vidit Gawri while Sohail Khalid shall take on Nikhil Kapahi in the afternoon.
Meanwhile, the junior billiards event shall start from May 27.
Today's matches were officiated by markers, Surjit Singh Baloria and Rakesh Sharma.
