Fake CBI Inspector held for blackmailing ST officer | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, May 24: A fake CBI Inspector was today arrested by police for allegedly backmailing a sales tax officer and threatening to frame him in a case if he did not pay him Rs 1.5 lakh. Sham Lal of Nowshera called up sales tax department employee Sikandar Rahi few days back and introduced himself as a CBI Inspector. He levelled serious allegations of corruption against Rahi and told him that he had reports about his corrupt practices in the department, police sources said. Sham demanded Rs 1.5 lakh from him as his share of the alleged booty. Rahi then lodged a report with Trikuta Nagar police station in this regard. A trap was laid. Now Rahi called up Sham and told him that he was ready to pay him Rs 50,000 as first instalment. Sources said when Rahi came to receive money outside Vishal Mega Mart near Bahu Plaza, cops overpowered him. He was immediately arrested and whisked away to the Trikuta Nagar police station. A case under section 170 of RPC had been registered against him.
