Fake PRC racket busted; councillor, 2 govt employees held | | | JAMMU: A municipal councillor and two government employees were today arrested by Bishnah police for allegedly running a fake PRC (permanent resident certificate) racket. 180 fake PRCs, stamps of tehsildars of Bishnah, Jammu, RS Pura and Samba, SC category certificates and several other incriminating documents were recovered from them. The accused were identified as Ward No 4, Bishnah, councillor Dev Raj, MES employee Mohammad Sadiq and Rashpal, an employee in the office of chief town planner, Jammu, of Kullian. Sadiq was at present putting up at MES quarters, Satwari. Dev Raj worked as stamp vendor in the office of tehsildar, Bishnah. Police sources said acting on a tip-off, police rounded up Dev Raj from the tehsil office. During interrogation, he confessed to his involvement in the fake PRC racket, the sources added. His interrogation led police to the arrest of his associates Sadiq and Rashpal, the sources added. SP (headquarters) J S Johar confirmed that three persons were arrested in connection with a fake PRC racket. Besides 180 fake PRCs and stamps of three tehsildars, 105 plain stamp papers, several SC cetegory certificates and plain stamp papers were recovered from them, the SP said. Of the seized fake PRCs, 91 bore the stamp of Bishnah tehsildar while the rest had stamps of tehsildars of Jammu, R S Pura and Samba on them, Johar added. He said their customers were mostly outsiders and they charged from them Rs 10,000 to 20,000 per PRC. A case under section 420, 168 and 169 of RPC was registered against the accused at the Bishnah police station. Interrogation of the accused was on. Police hoped to make more arrests in the case.
