Jammu records the hottest May day in 8 yrs?
Mercury touches 45.5 deg C

JAMMU, May 25: The mercury touched a record 45.5 degrees Celsius in Jammu on Tuesday, making it the city's hottest summer day in the last eight years.
The searing summer heat has continued to rise in Jammu with prevailing heat wave conditions expected to continue in days to come.
Weather officials warned that no respite from scorching summer could be expected from tomorrow onwards as mercury may witness further upward trend.
Dr MK Khushu, Chief Scientist Agrometeorology, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (SKUAST) Jammu said, "The temperature would be either continue to remain same or may rise for further with heat wave conditions prevailing."
"The maximum temperature of Jammu was recorded at 45.5 degree Celsius which was hottest day of not only this summer season but also of past eight years. The maximum temperature was hovering around six deg C above normal. Earlier, Jammu had recorded 45.5 deg Celsius in 2002," the Chief Scientist said, adding that today minimum temperature was recorded at 23 degree Celsius.
"Prior to 2002, the mercury had attained this height in year of 1998 and 1988," he said, adding that today's highest relative in Jammu region was recorded at 45 per cent while the lowest figure was 9 per cent," he said.
Notably, a steep increase in mercury was being witnessed in Jammu region for the past one week with maximum temperature hovering around 43 deg Celsius.
