PDP strikes a 'concordant note' with NC - a ‘pseudo bonhomie’ of rivals?
Expels Sawhney for 'indecency' against Omar

EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, May 26: Everything is 'fair' in politics. In politics political parties make strange bedfellows and embraces even rivals, if need be, albeit all for the sake of own interests. There have been instances galore to substantiate this. 'Expulsion' of senior leader AK Sawhney from the PDP appears to be a routine disciplinary action but the reasons which PDP leadership has attributed this not only sounds strange but 'far fetched' political explanation.
PDP has shockingly come out with a reason in which Sawhney has been reprimanded for having created indecency during a rally by way of bringing a donkey and putting posters of State Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on it. What is even more strange is the fact that in its expulsion order issued today , PDP president Mehbooba has taken strong note of what she has observed as 'vulgar language against Chief Minister written on those posters', something which PDP leadership thinks is quite indecent for which she has held Sawhney responsible and therefore this action……!
One wonders to see this sudden 'change of heart and attitude' towards a rival party and the Chief Minister against whom PDP has been on variance and discord on all issues. In fact both the parties have been looking for trivial reasons to look down upon each other. From normal bickerings to naggings and even awkward brawls……..not only the lower level cadres but people at the high command level in both the parties have not left any occasion whenever they got a chance to malign each other. Both the regional parties are at warfare to such an extent that remain pitted against each other always -indulge in petty wrangling which dominates the political scene in the state most of the time.
The unmelodious memories of 'three idiots' is still fresh on public minds, which was followed by an equally venomous attack and hot reactions from the National Conference. All said and done, the fact remains that both the rival parties are always daggers drawn against each other. One wonders then why PDP has suddenly felt bad about what postures that were 'supposedly' adopted against Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. One vital aspect about this interesting development is that PDP has targeted a Jammu based leader for making indecent and obscene postures against the Chief minister whereas it has never taken such strong notice against any Kashmir based party leader, even though they have been spitting venom, in more aggressive tone and tenor.
It needs no mention that on political issues that have been close to the heart of Kashmir and its identity, both rival parties have always been unanimous and and in complete harmony over the arguments which go hand in hand. They sing in chorus and give assent o almost in one voice over such issues and therefore it would be no exaggeration to say that on that score both are 'chips of the same flock'.
The real reasons for this development, quite apparently are beyond what is being given publicly. Reliable sources said PDP was quite 'uncomfortable' with Sawhney on a number of counts and wanted to 'get rid' of him. The rally and so called 'indecent acts' against Omar Abdullah by him in a rally at Jammu only provided that excuse and 'good riddance' for the leadership. Be that as it may, what makes the PDP rhymes and reasons unpalatable is the timing of the action. If all that what PDP is saying were to be believed, then did it take too long a time, from April 26 to announce this decision of expulsion. The sources have this to say that PDP by doing so has in fact PDP has tried to save its own skin from being pulled up by NC, anytime over any issue. Behind what it looks like conciliatory and sympathetic approach is the mind of mature and wise leadership at the top which wants to 'kill the enemy before it attacks them'. While an equally harsh and unpacified NC has yet to react to this 'fraternal and friendly' strategy of PDP, in terms of decency and other ethics, it remains to be seen that how long this new found 'bonhomie' between the rivals would long last.
