SR College holds seminar for IAS/KAS aspirants | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, May 30: The SR College of Competition (SRCC) today conducted a seminar-cum-awareness programme, attended by over 200 aspirants of IAS and KAS, at the college premises, here. These young people of state, including those from Ladakh and Kargil, who prepare for the Civil Services examinations, were guided by the visiting guest faculties from Delhi and other states. "The seminar turned out to be an eventful meet as it covered some key issues about the Civil Services, both KAS and IAS, and some specific features of academic and pragmatic nature that are the hallmarks of such examinations," Director of the College, Parveen Sharma told. It was, in fact, an unexpected meet because the gathering at the seminar was overwhelmingly attended by graduate and post-graduate students who seemed to have been fired by the euphoria of the success of the IAS topper, Shah Faisal, who coincidentally belongs to J&K State. The star performer of the seminar was the renowned Delhi School of Economics and Civil Services faculty, Abani Kumar Dash. He teaches Economy of General Studies paper as also Economic (optional). A faculty at the SRCC, Dash has been associated with the college since 2002, notwithstanding. While delivering his key note address at the seminar, Dash talked about the much awaited changes to be introduced in the GS prelims paper (IAS) from next year. He dwelt at length on the CSAT (Civil Services Aptitude Test), for level playing field that has been gaining currency in the IAS prelims, against the backdrop of the various geopolitical modifications taking place in the administrative and Civil Services functioning. Students were also counselled by Ajay Kumar Sharma, who teaches Geography both for General Studies paper as well as Geography Optional. He guided the students how the preliminary preparation can be integrated with the mains preparation. He told the students regarding advantages of taking Geography as an Optional paper. The seminar was wound up by the Director of the SRCC, Parveen Kumar Sharma, who in spite of his hectic engagements, outside the state converged at the seminar to share the experiences of the Civil Service faculties and the enthusiasm of the participants. He assured the participants that the SRCC shall be conducting similar such meets in future. As a prelude to the future meets that SRCC shall be hosting, Sharma said that he is personally organizing Civil Services awareness programmes in all the degree colleges of the State where the prospects of discovering young talents shall be explored.
