| NC has become a political liability: Mehbooba | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
SRINAGAR, May 30: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti has said over deployment of forces and militarization of mindsets has created a disorder in the social setup of the state which was now producing results in their worst form.
She was addressing a gathering of mourners who had assembled in Nadihal Rafiabad today to condole the death of three young people in 'fake encounters'.
Mehbooba said, "It was now a common knowledge that NC had not learnt any lessons from the past as it had revived the Ikhwani culture that had been crushed after the 2002 elections."
She alleged the NC had not only become a political liability for the state but had also emerged as a major threat to our society through its anti-people and anti-social under hand operations.
The PDP president visited the bereaved families of Shahzad Ah Khan, Reyaz Ahmad Loneand Mohd Shafi Lone. She was accompanied by party general secretary Mohammed Dilawar Mir.
The two leaders, in their address which was made at the insistence of the gathering, said it was inevitable to demilitarize the civilian areas of the state and revoke the AFSPA.
Mehbooba said PDP had been demanding these measures for the last several years and it is expected that the people at large and the government realize how important there is not only peace in the state but also for preserving our social, cultural and moral standards.
Mehbooba expressed the hope that the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh would address the Kashmir issue through political and humanitarian angle to realize the social and human disaster.
