Save lives of migratory Gujjars: Aijaz asks DCs | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, May 30: Reacting on reports that a sizeable population of Gujjars and Bakerwals who were under migration to upper reaches of Jammu and Kashmir got stranded in a number of places and a few men as well as livestock got killed due to snowstorm in different areas, Minister of State for Social Welfare, Haj Auqaf and Fishers, Aijaz Ahmed Khan today directed all Deputy commissioners of hilly districts to constitute and send rescue , relief and rehabilitation teams to overcome the situation occurred owing to unseasonable rain and snow. Aijaz stressed upon local civil and police administration of all hilly areas to provide all possible help to nomadic and tribal families who are facing hardships in mountainous ranges of Pir-Panchal and other areas. He said the matter has been taken up with Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah regarding disbursement of relief among those who have lost their lives during last one week due to natural calamity. He further said that government is committed to take care of food, fodder and medicine and other needs of the people who are stranded at a number of places. He said in case of emergency Army too would be asked to help in rescue operations.
