Over 6000 animals perished in snow storm | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, May 30: Fresh snow fall in upper reaches of Jammu region has caused huge damaged to livestock and other property with over 6000 animals belonging to the nomads of Marhawa, Warwan areas of mountainous Kishtwar district perishing in snow storm. Official sources have denied the reports of loss to human lives in the area. Meanwhile, on the directions of the Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, the MLA Kishtwar, Sajad Ahmad Kichloo along with the Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, Pawan Kotwal today undertook a detailed tour of remote areas of Marwah and Dachhan to assess the damages caused to livestock and property due to the untimely snowfall and incessant rains. Chief Minister has directed the Divisional Commissioner Jammu to prepare urgently an action plan based on the assessment, for providing relief to the sufferers. He also directed the Divisional administration for maintaining the supply of ration to the affected area so that the people do not face any problem on this account. The Divisional Commissioner Jammu has also been directed to monitor the situation regularly and sensitize the concerned to be prompt and responsive to the needs of people. It was informed to the team that the loss of livestock which include, cattle, sheep goat and horses was due to hypothermia. A total of 6050 animals including 4500 sheep and goats, 1500 horses and 50 cows perished in the snow storm. MLA Kishtwar, Sajad Ahmad Kichloo while interacting with the local people said that the damage caused to property and livestock in Dachan, Marwah and Paddar shall be assessed by the concerned authority and also damage to crops, trees and dwelling houses shall be also be assessed by the same agency. He assured them that Government would extend all possible help to the sufferers and their grievances would be redressed.
