Revoke security fee on langar parties: Sewa Dal
5/31/2010 11:35:45 PM

EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, MAY 31: Congress Sewa Dal has opposed the government decision to impose tax on Langar organizers enroute to Baba Amarnath Shrine pilgrimage.
Addressing media persons here today, Yash Pal Manhas termed the statement and decision of Finance Minister Abdul Rahim Rather as most unfortunate.
Manhas said that the imposing tax on free Langar organizers is irreligious and against the principles of justice as the free Langar committees collect donation from individuals to provide free food, water, medicines and other necessary items to the needy pilgrims enroute to Amarnath shrine.
Manhas appealed to the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to revoke tax imposition on Langars and other associate work of charity organizations.
He said that it is our tradition to provide subsidy to Haj Pilgrims and on the same pattern Amarnath Yatris be extended facilities of accommodation, medicines, electricity, water and other facilities to promote communal harmony and peace.
Manhas also appealed for revocation of toll tax on pilgrims' vehicles.
