Contests, Rallies mark No Tobacco Day | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, May 31: Rallies, Painting competitions and Debate competitions today mark the celebration of the World No Tobacco Day. JAKFAS- J&K Fine arts society Jammu organized inter school on the spot children painting competition on “No Tobacco Day” and world environment day at A glow Kids school Tali More Jammu. Children from different school participated in competition. Children were asked to focus their painting on. Cigarette smoke can kill you stop smoking today, life or death choice is yours, life is precious don’t destroy your future, smoking leads to cancer, heart attack avoid it, global warming is harming, grow more trees, stop deforestation, Save tree save nation, participants were divided in 4 groups. JAKFAS Gen. Sec- Suresh Sharma said that such exhibitions competition art workshops seminar shall be held at other institutions also JAKFAS plans to hold in different parts of the J&K state with sole aim that this art is cult amongst the children and it gains popularity. All the paintings judged by the artist Anoop Gupta, Rajni Sharma, principal of Aglow Kids school she bleesed the children and ask them to workhard in promoting this fine arts, later on she gave away the prizes to the winners. JAKFAS president S. Darshan Singh & administrator Sanjay Sharma of Aglow Kids also present on the occasion. Directorate of Ecology, Environment & Remote Sensing Govt of Jammu & Kashmir organized painting competition on 31st May 2010 in the premises of JKPS on the eve of ‘World No Tobacco Day”. Around 100 and above JAKIANS participated in the competition and made beautiful paintings portraying the ill effects of smoking and tobacco. Few JAKIANS spoke on the day and one of them expressed “Make the right choice choose life, Not Tobacco” and another JAKIAN said that tobacco kills 1 million people every year in India and India bears the highest burden of mouth cancer in the world. It was indeed a very informative and a fruitful event The best five paintings were awarded by R.C. Sharma in the assembly. The first five awardees were Arushi Jain of class 6th (1st Prize) , Krishika Gupta 6th (2nd Prize), Anirudh Gupta 8th (3rd Prize) ,Simrah Saman 6th (Consolation) and Aqsa Wani 7th (Consolation) To bring awareness of the hazards of the use of Tobacco and to strongly say ‘No to Tobacco’, the students of SR Public School (SRPS) today organized a rally. The rally was flagged off by Major Narender Sharma, who encouraged and applauded the students in his address after witnessing a skit presented by the students of the school. The Head Boy and Head Girl lead the rally followed by the contingents of four houses and Asst House Boy and Asst House Girl. The students of SRPS are not only excelling in their academics but ethically and morally also helping the society in uprooting the evils. They put in their best by making placards, posters and bands to spread awareness among the young, old, teenagers, especially the users of tobacco in different forms. Chairman SRPS Parveen Sharma, Vice Principal Sonica Gupta and Administrator Kiran Raina expressed gratitude to the police department for granting the permission to take out the rally. A discussion programme on the eve of WORLD- NO TOBACCO Day was organized at New Millennium National College of Education Sarore Jammu in which different students and faculty members expressed their views. The theme of the discussion was” Affects of Tobacco More dangerous in Women.” Many students of college presented their views in the programme Sita Ram bearing Class. Roll.No 194 said that Tobacco use among women, especially young girls, is on the rise and ill effects of tobacco use on health of women are twice more reverse than men. Another student namely Meenakshi Class. Roll. No 285 said that In India, women who smoke die eight years earlier than women who are non-smokers. Charan Singh’ bearing Class. Roll. No. 140 said that govt., non governmental agencies and civil society should take initiative in order to control the use of Tobacco. At the end of the programme, Principal of the college said every pack.-of cigarettes has a statutory warning that smoking can be harmful to the health and can cause cancer and other diseases also but used these without realizing its harmful effects on health. She also said that we should all take pledge not to use tobacco and to make People aware about its ill effects. The private school association of district Kathua today celebrated the world anti tobacco day by holding a seminar in Rainbow Model Higher secondary school Kathua. The seminar was graced by the participation of many private schools of Kathua. On the occasion several students of different schools delivered their opinion on the disadvantages of the use of the tobacco and its harmful effects on our health. They all stressed upon to avoid the use of tobacco and save the entire human kind from its ill effects like cancer asthma heart trouble and other fatal skin diseases. They also appealed to the each and every person of the society to be up against the growing use of tobacco and to root it out from the entire society. On the occasion chief education officer K.K Gupta was the chief guest and also expressed his serious concerns over the flourishing culture of use of tobacco which has taken its deep roots among all kinds of the generations and causing big impact on the health of the human being which taking the entire society in a weak state. Ramnik Verma of Rainbow model school got the first position, Shivalika of Minerva Public School and Pawan of Kids Heaven clinched the 3rd position while speaking on the tobacco world day in the seminar. On the occasion the president of the private school association Gand-harv Singh Katal, District general secretary of association Sh. Kapil Sharma were present. To celebrate the world tobacco day the students of the Shiva Public High School Kathua took out a rally to aware the people about the ill consequences of the use of tobacco in various shapes like smoking, chewing and etc. The students of the school taken out a large procession which started from kalibari and culminated at DC office along with carrying placards reflecting the messages “Say no use tobacco,” and “It is cancer causing agent”. World Anti Tobacco Day was celebrated today at Government Hospital, Gandhi Nagar Jammu, where the facility of Psychiatrists and Psychologists was provided for people who want to quit the habit. About 150 people took benefit of the facility. On the occasion besides Medical Superintendent Dr Subash Bhagat and Deputy Medical Superintendent Dr Arun Sharma were present. Dr Jagdish Thapa, Head of Department of Psychiatry Hospital provided counselling and treatment to the people, along with Dr Rakesh Banal and Dr Poonam Manyal. Dept of Psychology was represented by Dr Arti Bakshi, Head of the Department and Dr Chander Shekhar Asstt Professor. A national NGO SPYM (Society for Promotion of youth & Masses) dealing in drug de-addiction and having a de-addiction centre MASHWARA also participated by displaying posters and distributing educative materials. Nursing students of BEE ENN Charitable Trust, made posters on the occasion showing bad effects of tobacco. The students also interacted with Dr Thapa and other doctors and learnt techniques of motivation and counselling
