Champion Vipul among 6 shuttlers to play in | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, May 31: Current state champion, Vipul Saini among six shuttlers have been selected from Jammu and Kashmir to take part in the Indian Open Gold International Badminton Tournament (India Grand Prix Gold 2010) to be held at Chennai in Tamil Nadu from June eight to June 13. The event is being organised by Badminton World Federation and hosted by the Badminton Association of India. Selections for this prize money tournament have been made on the basis of current rankings of these players. Besides Vipul, the selected shuttlers included former state champions, Rahul Sharma, Avnish Sharma and Vikram Saini. Two women shuttlers, Diksha and Akanksha are also part of the team. As per the laid down draws by the organizers, Vikram Saini and Vipul Saini shall be playing in the men’s singles main draw while Diksha and Akanksha have been figured in women’s doubles main draw. Rahul Sharma and Avnish Sharma have been named in the men’s doubles main draw whereas Vikram Saini and Diksha shall be playing in mixed doubles. Diksha has also been placed in women’s singles qualifying. ABOUT VIPUL SAINI: State top seed, Vipul Saini was part of the selected shuttlers for preparatory camps held in connection with the ensuing Delhi Commonwealth Games. Pairing with his elder brother, Vikram Saini, Vipul was instrumental in taking University of Jammu to the quarterfinals level in the All India Inter-University competitions. “The ranking tournaments, which I started playing three years back, paid me the dividends in the shape of exposure and improved national ranking. It was because of the experience that I reached the quarterfinals of Junior National Championship held in Andhra Pradesh in 2007,” informed Vipul. .
