Omar's fake principal secretary held | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT RAJOURI, May 31: Fake appointment letters of lab assistants and peons in education department, duly approved and signed by chief minister Omar Abdullah, were today recovered from a confidence trickster posing as principal secretary to CM. He had been selling the fake appointment letters to the educated unemployed youth and was active in Rajouri, Poonch, Reasi and Kathua districts for the past five years, police sources said. He charged over Rs 1 lakh per appointment order, the sources added. Identified as Shafiq Ahmad, son of Mir Mohammad, he hailed from Atti in Rajouri. Evading arrest for the past five years, he was today held by a police team headed by DSP Liaqat Choudhary from his residence at Atti on a tip-off. He allegedly introduced himself as CM's principal secretary and then swindled unemployed youth into giving him money for managing jobs for them. Police recovered a fake rubber stamp of CM's principal secretary, and fake appointment letters signed by the principal secretary and approved by Omar Abdullah, SSP, Rajouri, Shafqat Watali said. As he was running the racket for the past five years, it was suspected that he had distributed several fake appointment letters to the youth. Most of the appointment letters issued by him were of lab assistants and peons in education department, the sources added. ources said some letters addressed to union petroleum minister for his permission to run gas companies in the area were also recovered from his possession. Some letters of Delhi Public School were also recovered from him, the sources added. Police said they were investigating the matter and the possibility of more arrests was not ruled out.A case was registered against him at the Rajouri police station under sections 467, 468, 471 and 472 of RPC.
