Private schools violating govt directions with impunity | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, June, 2: The State Government has directed few days ago to observe Summer Vacations from June 1, 2010 in all schools including government and private, in Jammu region. It was about a week advance keeping in view the extreme summer conditions in the region. But some of the private schools in Jammu city and its adjoining areas are still working in utter violation of the government order. As per the reports, most of the prominent schools of the city and its outskirts have not been following government orders and running schools with impunity. Private schools of "Winter Capital" are breaching this order. Some of the prominent schools of the city, in Jammu city were opened even today violating the directions of state government. Reports from Samba, Akhnoor, Bishnah, and R.S Pura areas confirmed that many schools were operating even after prescribed date of June 1, 2010 for summer vacations. It is pertinent to mention here that the state government had directed that all institutions in Jammu region would observe Summer Vacations from June 1, 2010 for 55 days, advance by about a week keeping in the view the scorching heat in the Jammu region. "Every year state government declares suitable date for Summer Vacations, but the private schools always violate their orders by extending date for summer vacations as per their wish," maintained by one school students, Radhika. Pertinently, summer vacations are meant for lessening the burden and refreshing the young minds, to bring change in hectic schedule of children as coming months will observe scorching heat. State President, Progressive Students Association (PSA) Rahul Dev Bhau stated that even private schools directed their students to come in plain clothes and take classes in the name of extra classes, the schools also charge extra fee for these extra classes. He further said that the state government should take stringent action on the private schools violating government directives. He also said that some high profile schools affiliated with Central Board Secondary Education (CBSE) were operating citing reason that they were not liable to follow the guidelines of state government. Director School Education, Jammu Zahida Khan stated that there were about 14,000 private schools in Jammu region; it was not possible for the authorities to inspect all the schools. "We are conducting random inspection in the schools", said Zahida Khan, adding "She further said that CBSE affiliated schools not fall in our jurisdiction."
