Two R&B culverts collapse within days of construction | | | early times report RAJOURI, June 2: Astonishingly, two culverts constructed by R&B department on Thera-Bhatti Dhar road here, collapsed today before these were officially thrown open to vehicular traffic. The use of sub-standard construction material by the R&B engineers was alleged to be the reason behind the incident. Out of the three culverts constructed on the road few days back, one was totally damaged, while the other had developed cracks all over. Official sources said one culvert collapsed under the weight of a loaded truck, while the other cracked on its own. These were scheduled to be inaugurated by the minister concerned in a week or so, the sources informed. Sources said the department had spent lakhs of rupees in their construction. "This is a clear case of the use of poor quality material in the construction of culverts," said Mohammad Farooq, a resident of Bhatti Dhar. Sources said when R&B engineers came to know about the incident, they immediately rushed to the spot for repairs. When contacted, (R&B) superintendent engineer, Rajouri-Poonch, Sarda Nandan Bhat said an inquiry would be conducted into the incident.
