Rs 25000 as fine from erring handicrafts traders | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, June 2: In its continuous drive under the guidance of Director Handicrafts, Meraj-ud-Din Kenu, the Department has accelerated its drive against the traders selling fake and sub standard handicrafts to the tourists. The quality control wing on the special instructions of Director Handicrafts paid surprise visit around the tourist areas. During the inspections, about 50 establishments were inspected and fine to the tune of Rs 25000 was realized from the erring traders who were found violating the provisions of tourist trade act like selling of unlabeled items etc. The Department has constituted special squads for checking and eradicating the menace of selling of fake Kashmir handicrafts. The Director advised all those dealing with the handicrafts to sell only genuine and authentic Kashmir handicraft items adding that department is going to act tough against the erring traders in future. Kenu said that the department is empowered to take legal action against traders who deceive tourists.
