DPS's misleading advertisements

EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, June 2: Already faced with the allegations of its teachers' lackadaisical approach in classes, Delhi Public School (DPS) crossed all limits when it gave advertisements in local newspapers, claiming that its four students had secured 100 per cent marks in the recently declared class X CBSE results.
The advertisements, which appeared on May 29, left all surprised especially when the CBSE has done away with the system of marks and replaced it with grading system.
Due to the grading system, it was not possible for anyone to find out the actual marks obtained by a student. Grade A-1 stands for 91-100 per cent marks, A-2 for 81-90 per cent, B-1 for 71-80 per cent and it goes down upto E-2 which stands for 0-20 per cent marks.
There is another scale of CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average) which is awarded on a 1-10 point scale according to the grades secured. A student can get a maximum of 10 CGPA but that does not necessarily mean that he or she has obtained 100 per cent marks as has been done by DPS in the case of four students.
It was nowhere mentioned that CGPA was an indicator of the percentage of marks, official sources said.
"But the school management has boasted of 100 per cent marks by its four students on the basis of their A-1 grade in all the subjects and 10 CGPA secured by them, which is by no means true," the sources added.
"When a students gets A-1 and 10 CGPA points, we can say he has performed exceedingly well but not 100 per cent," sources said.
Had it been so easy to convert the grades into marks, there would have been no need of going for the grading system, sources pointed out.
When contacted, school principal S Soren expressed ignorance about the advertisement and asked this reporter to check the website or contact CBSE authorities for any clarification.
The school claimed in the advertisement that it had made a national record as its four students had secured 100 per cent marks which was, however, found to be false.
Even the principal could not satisfy the queries.
