CRPF to be trained in jungle warfare
6/2/2010 11:46:53 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, June 2: To take on militants trained in guerrilla warfare and meet new security challenges, CRPF would be training its men in "jungle warfare". This CRPF decision was aimed at paying militants in the same coin. It has been seen that avoiding direct contact with security forces, ultras had adopted new tactics of ambushing troops, besides resorting to IED and grenade blasts.
While they suffer maximum casualties in gun battles, in ambushes and blasts, they suffer very less casualties, or almost no casualty. CRPF special director general N K Tripathi said the training methods of recruits were being reviewed from time to time to meet new security challenges. "They are specially being trained for jungle war," he added.
"We are reviewing the training methods to make new recruits ready to meet any new challenge of anti-national and anti-social elements, Tripathi said on the sidelines of passing out parade of 78th batch of 383 recruits at Recruit Training Centre (RTC) at Humahama. He said the recruits were going through 44-week-long rigorous training period before becoming part of the CRPF family.
"They were trained in handling all types of weapons, physical training and battle obstacles," he said and added more stress was now being laid on jungle war training.
Tripathi said CRPF would frame out a training preparatory and response strategy to meet the demands of changing internal security situation and challenges.
He, however, refused to get drawn into the recent train incident in West Bengal and said the inquiry was going on. He said some of the recruits, who passed out today, could also be posted in naxal areas.
About the two-month-long Amarnath pilgrimage, starting July 1, he said as per the past practice, the force could provide all security for the peaceful yatra."We have been providing security to pilgrims right from Jammu to cave shrine and this year too we will see the yatra completes peacefully," he added.
