70 unauthorised rly passengers fined over Rs 50,000 | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, June 4: Intensifying surprise checks to detect unauthorized travelling in trains, the railways Thursday caught hold of 70 passengers who were travelling in Jammu-Ahemadabad Express without having reservation in their names. A fine of over Rs 50,000 was realised from them on the spot, official sources said. 70 passengers traveling from Jammu to Ahmedabad, not having any reservation in their names in sleeper class coaches of the train, were detected by Centralised Ticket Checking (CTC) squad and an amount of Rs 51,450 was realized from them, the sources added. Sources said in a move to discourage people travelling on tickets not issued in their names, the railways had started conducting intensive surprise checks on running trains. On June 1, based on a definite source information that a group of passengers was likely to travel in Delhi-Ahmedabad Ashram Express, on such tickets which were not issued in their names, a surprise check was conducted by CTC squad in the train. 100 passengers travelling from Delhi to Ahemdabad, not having any reservation in their names in sleeper class coaches of the train, were detected and an amount of Rs 61,034 was realized from them.
