Group of Ministers visits hailstorm hit areas
Constitute committee; report to be submitted within a week's time

SRINAGAR, June 4: On the instructions of the Chief Minister, a high level group of Ministers today visited the hailstorm hit areas of Baramulla and Kupwara districts. A heavy hailstorm had lashed upper reaches of Rafiabad, Langate, Handwara etc. leaving one person dead and many injured besides causing heavy losses to paddy, horticulture and vegetables.
The group of Ministers comprising Minister for Agriculture, Ghulam Hassan Mir, Advisor to Chief Minister, Mubarak Gul, Minister of State for Agriculture, Javid Ahmad Dar, Minister of State for Revenue, Nasir Aslam Wani, legislators Ch. Mohammad Ramzan and Er. Abdul Rashid visited Kralgund and Ashpora blocks in Langate, Zachaldara block in Handwara and Dangiwacha block in Rafiabad constituency. Directors of Agriculture and Horticulture besides experts from SKUAST accompanied the Group.
The Group of Ministers was told that Horticulture has suffered 70 to 80 percent losses, agriculture comprising paddy and vegetables has suffered 60 to 70 percent losses besides damages to basic infrastructure in these two districts.
The Group on-the-spot decided the constitution of a committee comprising representatives of Revenue, Horticulture and experts from SKUAST to assess the damages and submit a report to the Government within a week's time.
A similar committee was constituted in respect of agriculture to suggest alternative cropping to be adopted. The committee would submit its report within two days. Another committee headed by the respective Deputy Commissioners would assess the losses caused to Irrigation network, road connectivity and other infrastructure in these two districts and submit its report within a week's time.
The Group of Ministers sanctioned on-the-spot an ex-gratia amount of Rs one lakh in favour of next of kin of a lady at Laash Mawar yesterday.
