Aditi wins U-19, U-17 titles in state chess | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, June 6: Young Aditi Sharma clinched both under-19 and under-17 titles in the two-day State (U-19) Chess Championship which was organised by All J&K Chess Association at Hotel Nek, here today. Second place in both the age groups went to Mehak Bakshi, who played against Aditi in the finals. However, the girls' under-15 title was secured by Mehak Bakshi while Akanksha Koul remained second. In girls' under-13 category, Meenal Gupta emerged winner and Heena Bhat finished second. Meenal Gupta also bagged the under-nine year trophy. In this age group, Arushi Kotwal was second. The girls' under-seven title went to Arushi Kotwal and Agamya Khajuria bagged second position. Similarly, the boys under-13 and under-nine titles were bagged by Chetanya Sharma and Deepak Mahajan respectively. In under-13 category, Ritish finished second. The matches officiated by senior players, Sumit Grover and Parkash Sadhotra. Earlier, the winners and runners-up were jointly given away prizes by the Association president, Atul Kumar, vice-president, Sanjay Gupta, secretary, Baldev Raj and joint secretary, Parminder Kumar. Encouraging sign The All J&K Chess Association was delighted over finding a good number of talented and fresher during the two-day championship. "We are happy to see such a healthy participation this time. About 80 boys and girls turned up for different age category events, including four under-seven participants, which is an encouraging sign for the game of chess in J&K," opined president of the Association, Atul Kumar. Also the presence parents at the valedictory function clearly reflects the interest among Jammuities to take up the game in a big way.
