| Pollution free Devika, police, NSS, NCC launches cleaning drive | | | SARITA JAMWAL

UDHAMPUR, June 6: Making bid to keep vicinity of sacred Devika rivulet in Udhampur town a pollution free zone, Udhampuer-Reasi Range Police and Civil Defence Organization, Udhampur in collaboration with Udhampur Municipality today launched clean Devika Drive. Deputy Inspector General of Police, Udhampur Reasi Range, Gulzar Singh Slalthia was chief guest on the occasion who formally launched the drive at Devika site. Senior Superintendent of Police, Udhampur, Surinder Gupta, Additional SP, Bhupinder Singh, Deputy Controller Civil Defence, Bodh Raj, Official of Udhampur Municipality, NSS, NCC cadets, Wardens, Volunteers of Civil Defence, prominent citizens and Social Workers were present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion DIG Udhampur- Reasi Range called upon the common masses to come forward and contribute for this noble cause. He said that police and Civil Defence organization Udhampur are committed to ensure safe and healthy environment for the people of Udhampur town. People should realized personal responsibility to make their respective surroundings neat and clean for the sustenance of healthy society, he said and added that continued efforts be made by one and all to keep surroundings of sacred Devika rivulet pollution free by educating the general masses about the harmful effects of water pollution.
Salathia ensured that police department in collaboration with other agencies would launch a comprehensive plantation drive during the ensuing monsoon season to make the vicinity of Holy Devika a lush green and pollution free surrounding. Stressing the practical implementation and volunteer initiatives to keep the surrounding of historic Devika rivulet pollution free, SSP, Gupta called upon the CD organization to educate the common masses especially those living in the vicinity of Devika site about the importance of save environment. He also appreciated the efforts of Civil Defence in this direction. Principal of Shivalik College of Education, Udhampur, Dr. Vikram Gulati and Chief Warden, Civil Defence, Advocate Surinder Khajuria also spoke on the occasion and suggested various means and ways to keep Devika a pollution free zone.
