JAMMU, June 6: Baba Amarnath and Baba Buda Amarnath Yatra Niyas has demanded increase in the number of registration counters for the Amarnath yatra commencing from July 1, besides introducing the system of current registration (slip system) on the pattern of Vaishno Devi shrine.
Talking to the media persons here, Dr Ramakant Dubey, president Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and member of Niyas said, "Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) in collaboration with Jammu and Kashmir Bank Limited has established 121 counters for registration of pilgrims across the country, which are insufficient and inadequate. The Board should increase the number of counters for providing better facilities to pilgrims."
The VHP leader also suggested introducing of current registration system on the pattern of Vaishno Devi shrine, saying "the pilgrims who want to perform darshans of Amarnath shrine should be provided the facility of current registration (slip system) to streamline the process. A counter for current registration should be established at Jammu base camp for pilgrims."
Earlier, he disclosed that a five-member delegation of Niyas met the Governor N N Vohra, who is also the chairman of Shri Amarnath Shrine Board, and discussed the various issues pertaining to better facilities for pilgrims of Amarnath.
"During 50-minute-long discussion with the Governor, we demanded sufficient space for saints visiting the Amarnath cave shrine during the two-month long pilgrimage. The saints would stay at Purani Mandi temple which can accommodate 500 Sadhus during the pilgrimage," he said.
"As far as charging of sanitation charges for establishing free langers, the Governor has assured us for reviewing the decision from next year. We have been assured the sanitation fee would be converted into security fee which would be refundable from next year," he claimed.
