Farooq rules out talks between PM, separatists | | | ARTEEV SHARMA EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, June 6: Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Farooq Abdullah today ruled out the possibility of any talks between the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and separatist groups during his two days visit to Kashmir Valley commencing from tomorrow. Talking to media persons at the sidelines of a function at General Zorawar Singh Auditorium in Jammu University here, Farooq said "The basic aim of the Prime Minister visit is to review the development projects being sanctioned by the Central government for Jammu and Kashmir. There will be no open offer of talks with the separatists during his visit to J&K. The Prime Minister is visiting Jammu and Kashmir to take part in the convocation of the Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology Kashmir, besides holding talks with the leaders of different political outfits and reviewing the development projects of central government." "As far as talks with separatist groups are concerned, the Home Ministry is reviewing it. We don't expect anything big for talks, but PM would take stock of the developmental activities and would meet the security forces to review the situation in the state", the Union Minister said. He however, asserted, "Though Centre is ready to hold talks to solve the Kashmir imbroglio, the separatists would have to shun the path of violence if they want any meaningful solution." He said that the Prime Minister would be personally meeting the Governor N.N Vohra and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, besides holding interaction with the leaders of other political parties. "He would also take stock of the status of the various developmental projects of the Central government in the State," he maintained. On the IPL controversy and 'killing' of three youth of Machail in 'fake' encounters, Farooq refused to comment. Virtually perturbed over the delay of two hours in his flight to Jammu from Union Capital, he expressed anguish over working of Indian Airlines and said, "The Central government had earlier provided Rs 800 crore to the Indian Airlines for improving its infrastructure. The government has once again provided it Rs 500 crore financial assistance but the things remained unchanged." "What to talks of the miseries of the common man if there was a delay of two hours in my flight?" questioned Farooq. He disclosed that he had already taken up matter with the Union Civil Aviation Minister, Praful Patel in this context. "Things have not been changed thus far and the Ministry should take drastic steps to improve the working of Indian Airlines. It has lost the confidence of the people which is not a good omen for the Aviation Ministry," furious Farooq said. Later, he also interacted with the media persons during a function organized by Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Language, Jammu to pay tribute to Mahatma Budha Singh on 126th birthday anniversary today. On the occasion, Farooq was the chief guest. He paid flower tribute to Budha Singh along with other dignitaries present in the birthday anniversary of Budha Singh. While paying him tribute Dr. Farooq said to follow the paid of Budha Singh. Savita Bakshi, additional secretary J&K Culture Academy welcomed the chief guest and the other present. She thanked Dr. Abdullah for sparing his precious time. The function was presided over by Mangat Ram Sharma, former deputy Chief Minister. He also paid tributes to Singh and recalled the workings of Budha Singh. In the function, a documentary film was played for 15-minute on Budha Singh, founder of the freedom movement in the state. The members of National Conference present there also paid tributes to the Singh.
