JOT team unhappy over plight of Jammu migrants | 'Gujarat capitalists willing to pump in money to resurrect lives of militancy affected people' | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, June 8: Expre-ssing concern over plight of militancy affected people in Jammu region, former Governor of Himachal Pradesh and retired Judge, V S Kokje today claimed the capitalists in Gujarat are willing to pump in enough money into Jammu for resurrecting the human lives affected due to two-decade-long militancy. Kokje, who is also the head of an Ahmedabad based Non-Government Organisation (NGO)-Justice On Trail (JOT)-along with other six members, is on visit to Jammu region to take the stock of the situation arisen out of 20 years old militancy and sufferings of thousands of people who got migrated from far-off places due to terrorist activities. "There is abundance in private charity in Gujarat that can flow into Jammu for resurrecting the human lives in the region. The capitalists from there can pump in enough money to take up damage control exercise in Jammu that has suffered intra-provincial migration due to terrorism and are seeking for government aid to resurrect their lives," he said. The former Governor maintained, "Our focus is not Kashmir as the Valley is already on the radar of the international observers who quite often frequent there." He said that Ahmedabad based 'Justice On Trial' has initiated first attempt in Jammu to see into the problems of the terrorism affected people here and have collected the data pertaining to variegated aspects of the life. "After compiling a comprehensive report on terrorism affected families, our team would seek details from the Union government regarding the number of registered families being the victim of the terrorism in Jammu region and go for verification process. It would submit its report to the Union Government and demand a comprehensive package and dignified settlement of these families," maintained Kokje. The former Governor informed that the team visited the remote areas of Rajouri, Manjakote, Bhimber Gali, Mehender, Poonch, Surankote, Thanamandi, Kote Ranka, Budhal, Kalakote, Triyatfi, Yalwara Migrant Camp, Reasi, Gool Arnas, Banihal, Ukhraal, Ramban, Batote, Doda, Chapanari, Kishtwar, Kawad, Thakrai, Gandoh, Bhaderwah, Pul-Doda and Udhampur and held interactions with more than 500 people and interviewed about 250 victims of terrorism directly or indirectly. "We came to know that people of Jammu region, who left their houses due to militancy, had been neglected by the state as well as the central governments and they have not been provided relief at part with the Kashmiri migrants," he said. He further said that the team has identified has some aspects vis-à-vis problems of these people which include inadequate relief, inordinate delay in processing relief cases by the concerned authorities, non-registration of migrated people of Jammu Province, delay in grant of dependent certificate, backward area certificate and resident certificate, complaints about SRO-43, not paying the SPOs adequately, injustice with VDC members, complaints against and mistrust by the Arm Forces, no special package, development and poor condition of Talwara migrants.
