Jakhani residents protest water shortage

UDHAMPUR, June 8: The residents of Jakhani area of Udhampur today staged a protest demonstration against the Public Health Engineering Department and demanded smooth and regular supply of drinking water. The local people sat on dharna and raised anti-administration and anti-PHE slogans and threatened the administration to launch agitation. They alleged that despite several representations given to local PHE officers, tehsil and district administration, no one come to heed their grievance till date which forced them to sit on dharna. They alleged that despite Deputy Commissioner's assurance during open darbar held here that problem would be sought out within week time nothing was done so far forcing people to come on road.
The residents alleged that they were facing lot of hardships due to problem of drinking water and hot weather conditions have further added to their woes. They gave ultimatum to administration and PHE to restore the water supply in the area at the earliest failing which they would launch an agitation.
