| Excise deptt records 24.43 pc hike in revenue realization | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, June 9: Excise Commissioner, Pradeep Gupta reviewed the functioning and performance of the department in a meeting of senior officers held here today. All the Deputy Excise Commissioners and Excise and Taxation Officers from various ranges were present in the meeting. It was informed in the meeting that Rs 61.30 crore revenue has been realized during May this year which is Rs. 12.29 crore more than that recovered during the corresponding period last year. Besides, the department has earned Rs. 112.33 crore revenue during current year till ending May which is Rs. 22.05 crore more than that recorded during corresponding period of last year thus registering an increase of 24.43 percent. Elaborating upon the measures taken up for further streamlining of the department, the meeting was informed that computerized weighment has been introduced to bring in more transparency in the functioning of Toll Posts. Besides, this vital facility has also been introduced at the Toll Post Upshi on Leh- Manali road.
Gupta exhorted upon the officers to keep strict vigil to ensure that no evasion of Toll and Excise revenue anywhere in the state could happen. He instructed them to deliver prompt services and be more responsive accountable to the grievances of the public particularly the transporters and the commuters.
