JAMMU, June 9: After excelling in boys category, St Peters School Karan Bagh girls clinched the under-17 basketball title in the two-day inter-school district level basketball tournament underway at Mini Stadium, Parade, here
In the final, St. Peters defeated Model Academy 24-06 in a one-sided contest. Earlier, in the semi-finals, St. Peters trounced SOS School Gole Gujral again in a one-sided game 18-06. In under-17 category, only three schools turned up for the competition.
Just a formality
The ongoing inter-school competitions of Jammu district in the events of hockey, basketball, softball and handball have become just a formality for the Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS). "Thoughtless action on part of the organizers, DYSS, to conduct the annual activity during `summer vacations', in fact, led to less participation in these team events," opined an official of the department. It has become headache for the concerned staff to bring the student players to the fields for the ongoing competitions.
