Power Grid Department provides facilities to handicapped | | | Early Times Report Jammu, June 9: General Manager(I/C) Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd, Northern Region-II S.C. Singh dedicated a classroom and a toilet complex constructed by POWERGRID under its CSR Scheme to the children of the School for Hearing Handicapped (Deaf and Dumb) at Shahidi Chowk, Jammu today. J&K Samaj Kalyan Kendra had approached POWERGRID for extending helping hand in providing these facilities to the School for the Handicapped. POWERGRID immediately agreed to the proposal and constructed the classroom and toilet complex in three months time at a cost of about 4 lac rupees. Managed by an organizing committee of J&K Samaj Kalyan Kendra, the School is supported mostly by public donations and one a while by the government also. This School for Deaf and Dumb presently houses 85 children who are receiving education at different levels. In addition to regular classes, vocational training is also imparted to the students there. On this occasion S.C.Singh highlighted the role of POWERGRID in the service of the nation and its commitment to social development. He lauded the efforts of J&K Samaj Kalyan Kendra in getting these children educated and thereby supporting them in becoming self-reliant. He assured the school authorities that POWERGRID would continue to support their activities as and when required. Besides Sh. S.C.Singh and senior officers of POWERGRID, R.R.Khajuria, President, J.K.Vaid, General Secretary and some office-bearers of J&K Samaj Kalyan Kendra were also present on the occasion.
