Programme on environment plantation drive held at MIET | | | Early Times Report Jammu, June 9: The directorate of environment and remote sensing organized environment awareness programme by organized a seminar and plantation drive at Model Institute of Engineering and Technology (MIET) at Kotbalwal, here today. Speaking on the occasion, chairman MIER, Dr Arun K Gupta said, that need for creating awareness is felt because, 'we are spoiling environment inadvertently by contributing to air, water and noise pollution which leads to innumerous health problems and also premature deaths. Air pollution only leads to lung disorders, asthmatic problems and respiratory diseases. Some from the vehicles, industries especially the petrochemical ones contribute the maximum. Prof Uma Sharma, president, Patanjali Yog Samiti who was the chief guest highlighted the importance of this day with special thrust on the value of the medicinal plants. Dy. Conservator of forests from the department of Environment & Remote Sensing, RC Sharma provided publicity material, banners and others items required for generating interest amongst the students. Students spoke on a variety of issues like climate change, global warming, depletion of ozone layer etc, which are bothering all of us and suggested measures for arresting the pollution at the individual and governmental level. After the seminar, there was a healthy discussion on the subject.
